Hi, Y’all!! Happy Valentine’s/Galentine’s/Love Yourself Day!! I know many people dread this holiday. I’ve heard many friends tell me that this day makes them feel “alone” or going to be #singleforlife. Today on the radio I actually heard that only 54% of people in America celebrate this holiday. Why are so many dreading today, when just a little over half of the population celebrate this holiday!?? So I think this is a great time to talk about the topic of self-love.

Over the years, I have learned the power of loving yourself. There are so many ways you can show love to yourself, my favorite is spending time alone and even traveling alone- which you can read about in a previous blog post. However, on a daily basis, it is important to be your own source of empowerment to be successful and happy. I have found seeking others for confirmation, just leads to disappointment. This is why we have to look within to receive happiness and care we deserve. I have stopped relying on others for contentment or to determine the level of my success. So, each day I am learning to be my own best friend.

Nicki, really?? Be your own best friend, what does that even mean?! Well basically, treat yourself the way you would treat your friend. I think it is pretty safe to say that we are all nice to our friends- caring, loving, compassionate, and treat them with respect. Since I have started becoming my own best friend, I have learned to trust and respect myself for who I am. And, boy, has that been liberating. This is not something that has happened overnight but when I changed my perspective of loving myself just as much as I love others, I have found a peace in myself that has created more stability and happiness. I am still constantly learning how to take care of and love myself. I want you to know that I know this isn’t easy, but I am here to share things that have helped me so maybe it can help you too! Simply changing my perspective that I am the sole source of my happiness was the beginning of my journey of self-love, and I hope it is for you too!

So if you haven’t been showing yourself love or being your own best friend, I think today is the perfect day to start. As you begin changing your perspective, I also encourage you to do something special today for YOU! What will it be?? I want to know!! For me, I haven’t decided yet but I think it will have to do with a little bit of shopping 😉
