I am a firm believer that your greatest struggle becomes your greatest ministry, and Elizabeth Scovil is a woman that continues to inspire me to live out this mission. Four years ago, when I first met Elizabeth, I knew there was something special about her and her family. Hearing her story of surviving the heart disease that almost killed her is what made her so much more special.
Elizabeth had four grown children, athletic as ever, and one day, she collapsed and nearly died. After spending time at the Mayo Clinic, the doctor’s told Elizabeth that she was born with a very rare fatal heart condition, which most people don’t live past the age of 20 with this but she was 46. After nearly losing her life and battling the effects of heart disease, she was overwhelmed by God’s mercy. During this painful and confusing time for Elizabeth and her family, she found her purpose.
Elizabeth has made it her mission to educate women on the preventative measures and warning signs of heart disease through the creation of her beautiful handbags, Elizabeth Scovil Handbags. Each bag she sells, a portion goes to the advocacy and research in helping women battle heart disease and included is a card with information about heart disease. And through her new 501C3 Elizabeth Scovil Heart Foundation, to date she has paid for over 400 local women’s heart medicine for a year.
There are one and three women that die from heart disease, and unfortunately, my grandmother was one. Now, I will proudly stand beside Elizabeth and support her mission of educating women about the prevention and vital information about heart disease that is so often overlooked.
Not only is there such a passionate mission behind Elizabeth Scovil Handbag, but each bag is handmade in the United States. The quality and detail in each bag make it the perfect addition to your wardrobe. Since it’s summer and I am always on the go, I have loved the lemon mist backpack. And I definitely have my eyes on the dusted gray millennial tote to carry all I need to and from work!
As you are looking for a new bag, I hope that you too will stand beside the mission of Elizabeth Scovil Handbags by liking her Facebook page and following her Instagram, and always remember the signs of a heart attack:
Pressure in the center of the chest
Shortness of breath
Cold sweats, nausea, and/or dizziness
Pain in both arms, jaw, or neck
Together let’s join the movement of empowering women and changing the statistic.
